Mohammed Polo, a Ghanaian football veteran, has advocated for the firing of Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton, claiming that there are better managers in the local league.
Polo’s remarks after Ghana’s goalless draw with Madagascar on Sunday, June 18th, 2023 at the Kianja Barea Mahamasina in Antananarivo.
Ghana’s performance against Madagascar in the last Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers raised more questions than answers about the team’s goal-scoring prowess.
One of those detractors is the 1978 AFCON winner, who feels that managers in the Ghana Premier League can handle the Black Stars better than the former Brighton manager.
“In the local league, we have better coaches who play quality football and are far superior to Chris,” Polo told Rainbow Sports.
“We have witnessed the level of excellence they bring to their games and the calibre of players they develop.
These coaches are unquestionably superior to the current coach of the Black Stars.
We must dismiss him and appoint a better coach who understands excellent football.”
Mohammed Polo believes that local coaches are developing and producing more quality players and should be given the opportunity to lead the Black Stars.
“I want to emphasize that these coaches have played quality football and should be selected or appointed as the head coach of the national team,” Polo stated.
“The quality players we see in the local league are trained and nurtured by our local coaches.
So, if these coaches are developing fantastic players and playing quality football, we should give them the job because they deserve it.”
