Bofoakwa Tano interested in signing Andrews Appau from Asante Kotoko

Bofoakwa Tano, the recently promoted team in the Ghana Premier League, has indicated an interest in re-signing its former defender, Andrews Kwadwo Appau, who has a year remaining on his contract with Asante Kotoko.

According to numerous media reports, the Porcupines have decided to dismiss Appau, who has struggled to make an impression since joining from Bofoakwa Tano.

Appau signed a four-year contract with the Ghanaian giants in October 2020, but he has struggled to win a regular starting berth.

The central defender has made only 33 appearances in three seasons, showcasing his dismal record in Kumasi.

As things stand, Appau appears to be on his way out of Asante Kotoko, despite Bofoakwa Tano’s significant desire in bringing him back.

Appau, however, is not now a member of the Kotoko squad that is preparing for the new season at Beposo.

If Afriyie's qualifying remains valid, Kurt Okraku will run uncontested for the GFA Presidential seat. Afriyie's legal team, for its part, is planning to refer the issue to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Presidential candidate Amanda Clinton is appealing for a “sense of choice” in the 2023 GFA elections.

She made this call in the midst of various legal squabbles surrounding the elections, which were initially scheduled for September 27 in Tamale but were postponed to a later date owing to an injunction issued by King Faisal Babies Football Club.

Aside from the aforementioned problem, GFA Presidential contender George Afriyie has been disqualified (at the time of writing) because one of his endorsers is ineligible.

This judgement was reached by the GFA Elections Committee, and the Appeals Committee supported the decision to exclude the former Vice GFA President.

“For an organization (GFA) screaming for that sense of game changer choice and him (incumbent GFA President Kurt Okraku) coming out and saying you know am the keeper of the safe, so to think for Ghana football et cetera, this is not how you do it.

Footballers -administrators are all the same people they are from the same cloth but you need to give a sense of choice” Lawyer Amanda Clinton said on Citi FM’s Eye Witness News.

2023 GFA Elections: George Afriyie heads to CAS over disqualification, seeks injunction from High Court elective congress

This was in response to Mr Afriyie's appeal, in which he claimed the Elections Committee misdirected itself on the law of requirements to contest for the GFA Presidency, as well as misapplied article 8(3) of the GFA Regulations on Elections and article 13(2)(j) of the GFA Statutes 2019, resulting in the disqualification being deemed erroneous. Aside from that, the Elections Committee, which is meant to be composed of five members under article 54 of the GFA Statutes 2019, had six members during his vetting, which he claims is contradictory to the panel's authorised makeup.

George Afriyie, a disqualified GFA presidential hopeful, has urged his attorneys to submit an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the Appeals Committee’s decision to maintain the Elections Committee’s order barring him from this year’s polls.

Aside from the CAS appeal, JoySports understands that an application for an injunction on the GFA elections would be filed before the Accra High Court.

The Appeals Committee denied Mr Afriyie’s appeal on the grounds that he did not satisfy the conditions to run for president of Ghana’s football governing body.

It noted that “The invalidity of any document cannot be cured by reference to article 8(3) of the Elections Regulations. Indeed, if Mr George Kwasi Afriyie had submitted invalid Tax Clearance Certificate or invalid Police Clearance Certificate, it would have made his nomination invalid.”

This was in response to Mr Afriyie’s appeal, in which he claimed the Elections Committee misdirected itself on the law of requirements to contest for the GFA Presidency, as well as misapplied article 8(3) of the GFA Regulations on Elections and article 13(2)(j) of the GFA Statutes 2019, resulting in the disqualification being deemed erroneous.

Aside from that, the Elections Committee, which is meant to be composed of five members under article 54 of the GFA Statutes 2019, had six members during his vetting, which he claims is contradictory to the panel’s authorised makeup.

However, the Appeals Committee said the said sixth person is an “…in-house lawyer of the Ghana Football Association. The lawyer was not part of the Vetting Team and did not ask George Kwasi Afriyie any question. The lawyer provided administrative assistance to the committee.”

In response to his position that the Committee breached rule of “Natural Justice and Fair Hearing” of his candidature when it failed, neglected, and refused to apply article 8(3) of the FA regulations on elections, the Appeals Committee said “…it is not a case that a Police Clearance Certificate or passport picture had not been included which would have warranted the application of article 8(3) of the Elections Regulations.”

On this basis, the committee dismissed his appeal. It is unknown when the appeal will be filed at CAS, but sources indicate “soon.”

Wilfred Osei Kwaku Palmer went to CAS in the recent FA elections after being disqualified by the Elections Committee.

The committee’s ruling was affirmed by CAS.
