Ghana coach Chris Hughton has responded to the Black Stars’ 2023 final qualifying game victory against Central African Republic.
On Thursday evening, the Stars rallied from a goal down to defeat Central African Republic 2-1 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
In his post-match analysis, he stated that his team had the opportunity to achieve a more comfortable victory in the last stages.
“For me, it is always about the ending, the ending is we won the game. I think in the end we could have won it more comfortably with more goals,” he said.
“So we continue to work in international football you don’t have the players for very long and the squad can change from one game to the next. So you do the best you can from the period of time you have,” he added.
Louis Mafouta scored the first goal for the visitors in the 25th minute. Amos Youga assisted Mafouta’s goal.
Ghana failed to generate opportunities in front of their home crowd and couldn’t stop the visitors from attacking.
A few minutes before halftime, West Ham player Mohammed Kudus netted a spectacular free kick to equalise for Ghana.
Ernest Nuamah entered the game in the 63rd minute, replacing Red Star Belgrade winger Osman Bukari, and changed the direction of the game.
Nuamah had an early impact, capitalising on a superb feed from fellow replacement Antoine Semenyo to shoot from close range.
Angola and Madagascar drew 0-0 in the other Group E match. After six games, Ghana leads the group with 12 points. After six games, Angola is second with nine points.
