Military taskforce arrests five people after brutal incident at Bawku

A military unit in Bawku, in Ghana’s Upper East Region, has captured five civilians in connection with a violent attack on Saturday.

One person was killed in the event, while three others were gravely injured and are being treated at Presbyterian Hospital.

Alhassan Abu (52), Salam Arafat (22), Kasum Jamal (16), Nasiru (31) and Issah Mohammed have been named as suspects.

Following a sophisticated intelligence operation, the arrests were made at their hiding.

The incident occurred soon after Col. Antwi Awua Darkwa, Commanding Officer of the Airborne Force at Tamale’s Barwah Barracks, called on various portions of the Upper East Region to lay down their guns and foster peace.

Col. Darkwa also pleaded for peace between the Mamprusi and Pusasi groups, which have a long history of feuding.

The suspects’ arrests are part of measures to preserve law and order and safeguard the safety of inhabitants in the area.

The intervention of the military unit seeks to dissuade additional violence and offer a sense of security to the local populace.
