Former Asante Kotoko head coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor has emphasised the importance of complete reforms across all facets of the club in order to restore its glory days.
The Porcupine Warriors won the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season under the direction of coach Prosper Narteh Ogum, who returned to the club after leaving the previous year following the championship success.
As the reigning Ghana Premier League champions, the squad is presently preparing for the 2018 season, which is set to begin in September, barring any unexpected setbacks.
Former Black Stars manager CK Akonnor led the team for nine months, from October 2018 to July 2019. He emphasises the importance of the club addressing all areas that demand improvement.
“I think they need to look at themselves and see, where are we now and what we have to do to improve the squad and also to improve our game and also be known as it were some years back”
He also drew a historical analogy, mentioning earlier greats like Abdul Razak and Papa Arko, who guided the team to Champions League glory. Recognising this history, he emphasised the importance of reviewing and strengthening that component of the club’s identity.
“The likes of Abdul Razak, Papa Arko, I think they won the champions league and this is missing and this is what they need to look at and work on it.” Charles Akonnor told Radio Gold Sports.
Asante Kotoko will begin their 2023/24 BetPawa Premier League season on the road against returning team Hearts of Lions.
