Don Omar was born on February 10, 1978, in San Juan, Puerto Rico as William Omar Landrón Rivera. He is Luz and William’s eldest son. Omar grew up attending Iglesia Evangélica Restauración en Cristo, a Protestant church in Bayamón. He delivered sermons there on occasion.
Personal Life
Omar got into legal trouble in 2007 when a Bolivian concert promoter sued him and his management for cancelling a concert in La Paz. The promoter claimed Omar defrauded him and his organisation of $70,000 in connection with the cancellation; Omar claimed he cancelled because he was unable to obtain airfare in time to travel. The case was heard by a local judge, and both parties reached an agreement. Omar married journalist and television weather forecaster Jackie Guerrido in 2008. The couple divorced in 2011. Omar has a son from a previous relationship named Nicolas.
Career
Omar began performing at nightclubs after deciding to pursue a career in music. He was accompanied in his first public performance by DJ Eliel Lind Osorio, with whom he would form a fruitful professional partnership. Omar later appeared on numerous compilation albums, including those by reggaeton producers Noriega and Luny Tunes. He also sang backup for the duo Héctor & Tito.
In 2003, Omar released his debut studio album, “The Last Don.” The album was certified Gold by the RIAA and featured appearances by Trebol Clan and Daddy Yankee. Many of the concerts sold out in minutes as fans flocked to see Omar and Yankee perform together. In 2007, Omar established his own record label, Orfanato Music Group. The label specialises in Latin music, such as reggaeton, bachata, and Latin rap. Natti Natasha and Kendo Kaponi are among the artists signed to the label.
Omar made his acting debut in “Fast & Furious 4,” the fourth instalment in the “Fast & Furious” film franchise, in 2009. He played Rico Santos, a member of the crew of Vin Diesel’s street racer Dominic Toretto. Notably, he co-starred in the film with fellow Puerto Rican reggaeton artist Tego Calderón. Omar later appeared in the sequels “Fast Five,” “The Fate of the Furious,” and “F9.”
