Following Ghana’s dismal performance in the U-23 AFCON competition, Ibrahim Tanko, head coach of the Black Meteors, did not shy away from admitting the team’s lack of skill.
The Black Meteors were eliminated from the competition after drawing 1-1 with Guinea in their final Group match.
In a post-match interview, Tanko candidly admitted, “Yes, everybody saw it, definitely we are not the best in this tournament when it comes to quality but we are definitely working hard as a country. The FA is trying to change something but definitely, we have to do more like you said“
Tanko emphasised the apparent disparity in quality between their pre-game friendly against Egypt and their tournament performance.
He emphasised the need for the squad quickly catch up and improve, or else time will run out for them to attain their goal level of competitiveness.
“When you look at the game against Egypt (pre-tournament friendly) and today, you could see that yes, I think we need to catch up otherwise it’s going to be too late”
Ghana and Guinea were level on four points but were eliminated owing to a lower goal difference.
