Hearts and Kotoko have a head start in terms of autonomous league structures - Dr Baah-Nuakoh

Dr Kwame Baah-Nuakoh, Chairman of the Club Licencing Board, says clubs are interested in competing in the autonomous league.

He mentioned this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports as the first board meeting is set to take place on July 21.

Dr Baah-Nuakoh noted that Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club and Kumasi Asante Kotoko have taken the lead in discussions for the new league structure, which is set to begin in the 2024-2025 season.

“It’s been rolled out, once you register the company and members have started paying up, the two big clubs, Kotoko and Hearts of Oak have shown leadership, they’ve signed up already meaning that they are now members, shareholders of the company.

At the first board meeting…they would take the decisions on behalf of those who will pay later. So we are setting it in motion, it’s not waiting for anybody. When the other members realize that Kotoko and Hearts have already started taking decisions on their behalf, they will come on board.”

The autonomous league has been proposed as a solution out of Ghanaian football teams’ financial difficulties.
